The perfect balance between weight, features, comfort and durability, the LF 30L leaves no feature out while coming in at very light weight. The goal with the LF 30L wasn't to design the lightest pack, but a light pack with features to elevate your flow in the mountains such as being able to take your avalanche tools out without taking your pack off, easy access pockets and more.

Avy Tool Pockets
Quick Access to your tools
Quick Access to your tools

When designing the LF 30L we wanted to prioritize quick access to your avy tools, and really quick access to your probe while also improving the space efficiency and bringing the tools closer to your center of mass. The probe can be accessed without taking your pack off for quicker rescues and more efficient snow study.

The shovel can be access by dropping one shoulder strap. The pocket is made to accomodate shovels up to 11.5" in width and most large shovel handles. By putting the probe and shovel handle on the side panels of the pack we increase the space efficiency and bring the weight closer to your center of mass.

Materials
Ultra 400TX
Ultra 400TX

The LF 40L uses fabrics made. of UHMWPE (the highest strenght to weight ratio yarn on the planet) in different constructions.

  • The main fabric is Challenge Ultra 400TX which is 2x more tear-resistant and 8x more abrasion-resistant than competing ultralight fabrics.
  • The cinch top is a 210d nylon with UHMWPE ripstop.
  • The rolltop is a 50d nylon ripstop with UHMWPE cross-ply.

Back Panel Access
Full access to main compartment
Full access to main compartment

The only way to get access to all of your gear regardless of how you are carrying your skis. We think back panel access is essential to any backcountry ski pack built for moving efficiently in the mountains.

Back Panel Design
Breathable, durable, stiff
Breathable, durable, stiff

The back panel this year is updated and is one of the biggest innovations on the pack. The new backpanel is lighter, more durable, more breathable and stiffer. We made it stiffer because many backpanel access packs bulge outwards when stuffed and lose their carrying comfort and breathability. We developed a molded composite insert with anti-bulge ribs that keeps the back panel shape unless stuffed to the max.

No zip stash
No zipper transitions
No zipper transitions

The LF 30L has a front stash pocket with drainage to separate your wet gear like skins from your dry gear.

Helmet carry
Integrated helmet carry
Integrated helmet carry

We had enough of the dungy, strap-on helmet carry systems. We have seen too many people lose them, and they aren't secure enough to put anything inside your helmet like crampons. We built our helmet carry right into the pack so it can't be lost. It is also high up enough to be out of the way of the diagonal ski carry and still allows the pack to sit flat on the front.

Ice Tool Carry
No snag ice tool carry
No snag ice tool carry

The ice tool carry keeps the picks of the tools fully enclosed and secure so they don't get snagged or fall out. New for this year each side has an independent buckle. The ice tool carry is designed so that you can pull an axe out without taking your pack off.

Ski Carry
New modular ski/board carry

The diagonal ski carry can be moved between 3 positions the first two are either diagonal direction and the 3rd position is for skimo carry. The pack also has A-frame and vertical snowboard carry.

Removable Frame
Frame distributes weight
Frame distributes weight

The aluminum frame runs the perimeter of the pack and is sewn int the backpanel zipper so when the back panel is closed it matches the shape of the frame. The frame weighs 80g and can be removed (we made the installation easier this year).

Top access zipper
Easy access to the top

Pass through zipper to the main compartment at the top ideal for stuffing in layers and is not blocked by the helmet carry.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

We research and develop for steep terrain. We believe that the best gear isn’t dependant on any one variable, like being the lightest, but a combination of style, weight, durability, and functionality to address a certain need.

Epic bag - worth the investment

This bag really does it all. Amazing touring bag, great for travel as well. The pocket layout is awesome. I’m a ski photographer and I use this as my camera bag when I’m out shooting. I’m out there in all kinds of weather and what really sold me was the waterproofing and the back panel access. I can swap out cameras and lenses without even taking the pack off which is huge. Well worth it.

Love it!

definitely the best pack i’ve used, takes some time to get used to the small details and utilizing them but they have been phenomenal. I enjoy the secure helmet mount and being able to store ropes within that system. if i were to make changes I would add a designated spot for carabiners and atc devices, rather than clipping them where the shoulder strap meets the bag, it would be nice if there was a spot that was out of the way but also easy to assess for a quick repel. Definitely not something i’m losing sleep over though the bag functions great regardless, I find myself putting the same amount of gear i would in my 45L into this 30L so the space efficiency is phenomenal.

Hey Ben, thanks for the review! There is a small loop on the wearer's left hip pad next to the elastic pocket that is meant to put a caribiner through.

As good as backpack gets

I've been touring with the Raide LF 30L backpack, which is the best backpack I've ever owned! I love how slimly it sits on my back despite being crammed full with touring and camping gear at times. The zippers are butter smooth, intuitive pocket placements and a perfect combination of rugged materials mixed with stretchy fabric where it's needed. I initially was sceptical about the ability to carry my splitboard in assembled form, but I was relieved when that was no issue at all. It sits perfectly on my back, and it feels rigid and light at the same time.
If I'm nitpicking, the only complaint I have thus far is that the chest strap slides up and down a little too easy (when I tighten it, it would slide towards my chin and be less tight).
