Ultra 400X

The LF 40L uses 100% recycled fabrics that use UHMWPE (generic Dyneema) in different constructions.

  • The main fabric is Challenge Ultra 400X which is 2x more tear-resistant and 8x more abrasion-resistant than competing ultralight fabrics.

  • The rolltop is a 50d nylon ripstop with UHMWPE cross-ply.

No zipper transitions

The LF 40L has 2 compartments that you can quickly stow gear in without touching a zipper.

Stowable roll top
Storm mode → Bluebird mode
Storm mode → Bluebird mode

Roll up the rolltop for a weatherproof closure and get an extra compartment. If it goes blue and you don't want to deal with the roll top use the stow clips to keep the roll top out of the way.

Helmet carry
Integrated helmet carry
Integrated helmet carry

We had enough of the dungy, strap-on helmet carry systems. We have seen too many people lose them, and they aren't secure enough to put anything inside your helmet like crampons. We built our helmet carry right into the pack so it can't be lost. It is also high up enough to be out of the way of the diagonal ski carry and still allows the pack to sit flat on the front.

Ice Tool Carry
No snag ice tool carry
No snag ice tool carry

The ice tool carry keeps the picks of the tools fully enclosed and secure so they don't get snagged or fall out.

Avy Tool Pocket
Quick Access to your tools
Quick Access to your tools

When designing the LF 40L we wanted to prioritize quick access to your avy tools, but really quick access to your probe for snow epth checks. The avy tool access doubles as a pass through to the main compartment, and a waterproof divider keeps the main compartment snow free. The divider has a slot to sit flat against shovels with large necks. The pocket is made to accomodate shovels up to 11" on width.

Removable Frame
Frame distributes weight
Frame distributes weight

The aluminum frame runs the perimeter of the pack, dips behind your head, and down to the hip pads distributing the weight of the pack and providing rigidity for ski/snowboard carry. It weighs 80g and can be removed.

Back Panel Insert
Seat, splint, sled
Seat, splint, sled

Removable back panel insert weighs 110g and is made of a plastic layer and closed cell foam sewn together. It provides rigidity to the back panel and can be used to kneel or sit on, or for first aid applications like splinting or insulating an injured patient from the snow.

“For now, if I was buying a new do-it-all pack for this winter, this is the pack I would purchase.”

“I do my best to avoid certain overused, cliché words and phrases like “groundbreaking” when I’m writing reviews like this. But in the case of the Raide LF 40L, I think that term is justified.”

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

We research and develop for steep terrain. We believe that the best gear isn’t dependant on any one variable, like being the lightest, but a combination of style, weight, durability, and functionality to address a certain need.

Climbed and skied with on every volcano in WA

Incredibly well-designed pack that keeps on delivering in all kinds of conditions and holds up to a ton of abuse on big mountains. From c2c ski summits to multi-day cold weather mountaineering, this pack peforms extremely well. The only limitations I've noticed are that I would not exceed 60lbs as the weight on the shoulder straps becomes very painful. Also, when the pack is stuffed full to the top, the A-frame carry can no longer flare out the skis and they hit your legs as you walk, but you can do a diagonal carry in this situation.

Great Climbing and/or Skiing Pack

This pack is pretty versatile when it comes to climbing and/or skiing. It has enough storage for multi day trips and it holds all the technical equipment needed for all of the sports it’s designed for. I recently went for a ski and wanted use of two ice tools for the approach climb and this pack was able to deliver in style. It packs down pretty well for shorter missions but it seems to really shine in the big day to multi day category. I dig the roll top drawstring hybrid thing they have going on for the top of the pack and the helmet carry pocket works great as a quick storage for food, water, other nicnacs that need quick storage, and helmets… obviously. The buckles are fine, not great, but fine. Being slightly larger could be nice but it’s not a big deal. Same goes for the metal waist belt buckle. This pack climbs and skis well.

Would love to review it

I can't write a review because they're still sold out. I have an order in with one of your retailers and keeping my fingers crossed they'll be able to get me one before the snow starts falling again!

My favorite pack!

I love this pack, light, super comfortable and carries weight nicely.
Great features! Takes a bit of getting used to take the shovel out without getting caught in the shaft cut-out, but otherwise it’s worth every cent.
The only change I made was I swapped the sternum strap for a magnetic one (from a different pack) so I can easily clip in and off with gloves on.

Thanks Willy B

My clumsy ass broke a buckle, and Willy from support was super helpful in sending me a replacement!
